CRIME VICTIM'S COMPENSATION


Are you a victim of a criminal act? Have you suffered bodily or psychological harm as a result? You might be eligible for financial compensation from the Crime Victim’s Compensation Fund.

Who can apply?
Any person who is an innocent victim of a criminal act and suffered bodily harm, psychological injury or death, is eligible to apply. If the crime results in the death of the victim, a claim may be filed by a surviving spouse, parent or child, or by any person dependent for his/her principle support upon the victim.

What are the other requirements?
· The crime must have occurred within the last twelve months. If you file after twelve months, you must submit a letter stating why you are filing late.
· The crime must have been reported to law enforcement agencies within 48 hours after its occurrence.
· You must qualify under the Board’s definition of serious financial hardship.

What benefits are available?
· Reasonable medical and hospital expenses
· Loss of earnings up to a maximum of $150 per week
· Benefits for the dependents of a deceased victim
· Funeral expenses up to $2,500
· There is a $25,000 limit on each award

How can I file an application?
1. Call the Rape Crisis Center’s Victim Advocate at (606) 435-0849 or call the Rape Crisis Hotline at 1-800-375-RAPE (7273) and ask to speak with the Rape Crisis Victim Advocate.
The Victim Advocate will supply you with the Crime Victim’s Compensation Application, help you fill it out and help you file it with the Crime Victim’s Compensation Board.
