REGIONAL PREVENTION CENTER

The Regional Prevention Center (RPC) is located on 79 Little Grapevine Creek Road, in Hazard. RPC has a Resource Library full of information about substance abuse, that anyone can check out.

The Library has many products that people can use including books, DVDs, VHS tapes and brochures—mainly about substance abuse issues. The issues range from marijuana, tobacco, prescription drugs, alcohol, inhalants, and many more.

People can check things out of the library for up to 2 weeks, as long as they complete a “borrowing form”. If the information is needed longer, then a simple request is needed.

RPC is not only a great resource center for educating oneself about substance abuse but also a place to go to get information about prevention. RPC can do speaking engagements for any group, when it is requested.

RPC also works with all the communities in the Kentucky River Region, on their community coalitions. Some include Champions and KY ASAP.

In addition RPC helps with grant applications such as the Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive Grant (SPFSIG) that awarded Owsley Co. money to deal with the tobacco issue and Letcher Co. to deal with the prescription drug abuse issue.

These days people are looking for answers and information on how to prevent substance abuse addiction and/or how to deal with it if it affects a close friend or family member. RPC can help.

For more information you can call 866-213-8739 or 606-436-4124 and ask for Dorothy Back, or Donna Hardin, Prevention Director. The Resource Library is open from 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
