April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and KRCC's The Rising Center is set to kick things off with an Open House on March 27th. The Rising Center is located at 637 Morton Boulevard in Hazard.
From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the public is invited to visit the Center, where they can meet the staff, find out more about the services provided, and tour the facility. Staff will also be hosting a "Clothesline Project" display that portrays the impact of sexual assault across generations.
Light refreshments will be provided, and goodie bags will be handed out that will include information about our services and the referral process.
Following the Open House, an entire month of events is planned in which the community is invited to participate.
On March 30th, there will be a Pinwheel April Kick-Off event at Triangle Park in Hazard. The event starts at 11 a.m., and staff will be available to discuss services and awareness issues with the public.
Proclamation signings, Why Wear Teal Day, Chalk the Walk, Green Dot Week, Denim Day, a T-shirt Campaign, and Human Trafficking Training are all planned for the month of April. For more information about these activities, stay tuned to The Rising Center's Facebook page. The Facebook page will stay updated throughout the month with photos, PSAs, and moving personal stories.
Additionally, there are also coloring pages available, which we have included below. Those who want to participate can post photos of their colored pages to The Rising Center's Facebook wall to show support for sexual assault survivors and should use the tag #SAAM.
